One day I was walking my dog and an old man sitting on a bench said to me that if it wasn’t for the dog, I would not go out. I had to admit he was right. Having a pet is a great thing, as any pet owner knows. Having to walk the dog at least two times a day means I get to breathe fresh air every morning and evening.
My dream as a child was to have a dog to play with. I didn’t think about feeding him or cleaning after him. It was just the idea of a fluffy toy. Now I know it is more than that. I have fun while I cook for him or I have a reason for shopping when I buy dog food. But there is also the mess my dog does. All the toys spread around the house and the fur I need to clean.
Some periods of the year make me a very happy dog owner… not. It is the time when it rains or it is wet outside. Long walks are not exactly my pleasure, but the fun starts when we get back. My wet and dirty dog needs to be cleaned. And that happens at least twice every day, for days. These are the times when I think that dogs should be able to use a toilet. It is true I haven’t tried to train my dog to that… I’ll this in mind as a New Year’s resolution.
It was funnier when I had a carpet in the lobby and living room. My dog just loved to crawl on it and use it as a towel. No, I didn’t teach him that. After taking the carpet to cleaning, I decided to make a change. I decorated my hall and the room with limestone tiles.
My dog is not crawling anymore. But it only takes me a few minutes to have a clean house after a walk in the rain. Limestone tiles require low maintenance and they have a dense structure that makes them durable. Stains are not that visible, because of their beige tones. I kind of enjoy the walks in the rain now. And I have more time to play with my pets, without worrying about the floor.
